Paxton House


An outstation of the National Galleries of Scotland, Paxton House is set in 80 acres of estate. Check the web site for information on concerts, theatre events and children’s events. Bowhill House & Country Estate


The home of our neighbour, The Duke of Buccleuch. The house is open in July and August but you will have to book outside those months. Many events take place at Bowhill including bird feeding with the rangers, guided walks, arranged bike rides, night walks to see the bats and lots of activities for the kids. Thirlestane Castle


With it’s origins in the 13th century, Thirlstane is the home of the Maitland family who came to Scotland from France. with William the Conqueror in 1606. Many must sees in this castle and the grounds including Bonnie Prince Charlie’s Room. Castle tours are available and there is an adventure playground for the kids. A great spot for picnics. Floors Castle


Overlooking the River Tweed, Floors Castle is probably one of the most impressive big houses in the Borders. Built in 1721, it’s still home to the 10th Duke of Roxburgh.
