It’s only an hour away by car and the drive is wonderful. Worth a day trip at the least, if you have the time.

We recommend a visit the the Castle, of course, a walk down the Royal Mile to Holyrood Palace and the Scottish Parliament, a wander around George Street, Charlotte Square, St. Andrew Square and Princes Street.

If it’s wet and the kids are bored, the National Museum of Scotland in Chambers Street is great fun. Also look for Grey Friars Bobby, just up the road from the museum.

On a good day, the Botanical Gardens, Calton Hill, Arthur’s Seat and Princes Street Gardens are all wonderful.

So much to do, but it’s always nice to get back to Deloraineshiel for the evening!
